Every Sony consoles best-selling game!

Every Sony consoles best-selling game!

Sony consoles have produced hundreds of classics on every platform they have released. From PlayStation 1 to the most recent 5, the reputation of each has had its praise and criticism. However, there is no doubt that each console has also shown some true masterpieces throughout the years. Some of which still hold some replayability to this day. I still occasionally dabble in the original Spyro games on my PlayStation 1. That PlayStation 1 start-up sound, am I right? But the topic of choice around Sony is what is each console's highest-selling game? Answers will be provided, with their exact sales figures. It's no surprise domination by one franchise was for quite some time, and you will soon find out why. Without further ado, let's get into it.

PlayStation 1: Gran Turismo

The PlayStation 1 has a stacked library of classics. To choose the best over the highest selling would be impossible. The likes of Oddworld: Abe's Odyssey, Spyro The Dragon, Crash Bandicoot, Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy VII and Rayman to name a few, deserve high amounts of credibility for making the PS1 such a great console. But topping the list is none other than Gran Turismo, which sold around 10.85 million units shipped worldwide. Never would I have believed a racing game to top the list. But before Gran Turismo, racing games were mostly arcade based. Gran Turismo immediately changed all that by providing official licensed racers, cars and graphics that, at the time, really gave you the closest to a real racing simulator. Sadly though, this is the only PlayStation console it holds the title for. The next three probably won't surprise you on this list, however, the chapters perhaps might.

PlayStation 2: Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas

Just like the PS1, the PlayStation 2 was a phenomenal console. Its the console that currently tops the charts for the best selling console with over 155 million units sold worldwide. With a flawless library over its lifespan, Gran Turismo 3 is a close second with the highest, at over 14 million units sold. But the highest selling eighteen million units, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas tops the list for the PS2. Though Grand Theft Auto III & Vice City are absolute worthy of platinum medals, San Andreas was the game that put GTA on the map! Everyone I knew had this game, and had a sheet of paper to go with it scribbled with cheats to enhance or break the game. I must've spent countless hours on this game, without even really dwelling into the story. It wasn't until I was a bit older that I delved into the story of this game, and my goodness, what a campaign it was too. It had everything, sadness, betrayal and was funny as hell! Now before we move on to the PSP, I'm off to Cluckin' Bell for two number 9s, a number 9 large, a number 6 with extra dip, a number 7, two number 45s, one with cheese, and a large soda!

PlayStation Portable (PSP): Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories

The PSP released in 2004 with competition from Nintendo, but despite that was a huge success in its own right. Speaking of success, the console boasted some outright classics, and despite how much of a deserved success Vice City Stories was, with some arguing the title is the best of the PSP Grand Theft Auto games, it couldn't come close to the sales of its predecessor. Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories sold a whopping 8 million units, with other no PSP games even coming close to matching it; even Vice City Stories. Being biased for a second, I loved Liberty City Stories the most on my PSP because of the Liberty City theme, Grand Theft Auto 4, without a doubt, is my all-time favourite Grand Theft Auto for the storyline alone. LCS always has a place in my catalogue of repayable games and that will never change, Whilst I don't think the game is underrated at all like most people would say because a game can't be underrated and be the highest selling game for a console, it does deserve more credit amongst the Grand Theft Auto catalogue. Now moving to the PlayStation 3, which you guessed it, Grand Theft Auto takes that crown too!

PlayStation 3: Grand Theft Auto V

Is there any surprise in this? 29.52 million units have been sold worldwide for the PS3 alone, from a game that was first officially announced in 2011 and had two full years of anticipation before its release in 2013. GTA 5 made $800,000,000 on its release date. It then surpassed a billion dollars within the next three days. It seems as if Rockstar has to take down a new competitor with each system, before taking down them with a GTA title. The PlayStation 3 was dominated by Call of Duty for a long time, even surpassing GTA 4. But GTA 5 ran away with any competition before it started and right as it finished. The storyline alone was enough to get people hyped for this because the online mode didn't release until two weeks after. The announcement of multiple protagonists was one of the main selling points. Players had a choice of three protagonists who represented different aspects of criminal life. Michael was a rich and retired veteran. Franklin was a relatively new up-and-comer while Trevor was the manifestation of chaos. It sort of felt like each character was based on every type of Grand Theft Auto player. Moving now to the next gen consoles, The PlayStation 4 for a while was also dominated by GTA 5 but this is the last GTA title we talk about.

PlayStation 4: God Of War

God of War review - Polygon

Just before we talk about God of War, make a game beginning with G and it seems you might just have a chance at becoming a Sony console bestseller. The reason I write this is because, at this very moment of writing, I have only just noticed it. But anyway, back to the matter at hand. At 19.5 million units sold worldwide, to overstate just how good God of War is, you can't because it is that good! It's a diverse world that can leave you lost in it for hours, even just to take in the scenery of it all. How nuanced and layered its characters and storytelling are. With its in-depth customisation from crafting and its challenging but rewarding combat, God of War can simply be played by anyone and is a great starter for anyone looking to delve into its genre. Whether breathless and bloody in the aftermath of an axe-hacked victory or watching Kratos and his son Atreus share a genuinely human moment, this is a level of game-making that doesn’t happen often. That is quite simply, why it earned the Game of the Year title in 2018.

PlayStation 5: Demon's Souls

The New 'Demon's Souls' Remake Tries Too Hard to Be Realistic | WIRED

Though it is early to mention the highest-selling game for the PS5 with it only being out now for 2 years, I still felt it should have its current highest seller at 1.4 million units sold on the list simply because Demon's Souls is an incredibly faithful remake. Despite the elements from the original that hasn’t aged well also remain, such as The Dragon God which is quite a pathetic boss fight and on the level of Spyro 1's boss battles. But don't let that fool you, this will probably be the hardest video game you have ever played if you have joined the gaming horde in recent years, and you will be tested brutally. But just like God of War, the difficulty is rewarding and with such a beautifully designed world with textures that look flawless at your expense as well.

So there you go, every Sony console's best-selling game. Let us know what list we should do next whether we delve into Xbox or Nintendo or even take a trip back to the 80s with some of the classics. We will let you decide!
