Don't bend your phone like Beckham!
With England's 2022 World Cup campaign just over two weeks from getting underway, the play on words for this title felt relevant. What is the most common way that phones get broken or lost in Britain? Whilst it's very unlikely that David Beckham since his retirement goes around booting iPhones into the top corner, below are some examples that within their right are quite humorous. A thank you to insurance2go for revealing the most common ways.
Don't Forget To Flush

The ceramic home which the average Brit spends about 8 days a year on is unsurprisingly the most common way of a phone breaking in the UK. At least 739 people per year drop their phone down the toilet, with 20% even managing to flush it during the process as well. Next time you hear a bit of a splash at the bottom, ensure it is something that belongs in there before flushing!

Ahh yes, the famous black cab taking its spot at number two! There's a numerous amount of scenarios that can occur here by damaging your phone whilst in a taxi. This could be whether you've had to leave in a rush for being late to a certain event or whether you've had a few too many swift ones and upon leaving, not only you but your phone has also hit the deck. It comes as no surprise, around 21% of people travel by taxi at least once a week in the UK so that allows for plenty of situations like this to arise!

Hide your mobile phones, because your pets are out there and they are bored. That busted toy is no longer of interest to them anymore, they want to play fetch with your brand-new iPhone. Not only that but numerous household hazards can also be the cause of phones breaking, such as spillages or being knocked off the side. Whatever the case, numbers add up to pets damaging an average of 3.3 devices per owner so keep them occupied with a brand-new toy. Maybe even a dummy phone might do the trick?

The iconic British public house, where the smell of John Smiths and conversations of the local football team is an iconic setting for many across the UK. And has anyone truly ever stuck to this statement? If you've managed to do so then hats off to you on that willpower. Coming in at number four on our list is losing or breaking your phone at the pub. Of course, it is easy to forget your phone whilst under the influence of alcohol. Perhaps just as easy to break it whilst under the influence also!

And our last of the list is dropping your phone in the bath. It's a relaxing and therapeutic activity of taking a nice drip in a hot steaming bath. What better way to put on some nice relaxing music as well from your mobile until "plop", there goes your new non-water resistant phone to be broken. Whilst the market does offer water-resistant phones nowadays, maybe get yourself a speaker or something and keep the phone well away from the drink!
Other Claims That Are Outright Hilarious!

As proud brits, we pride ourselves on our intelligence, wit and ability to drink alcohol. But sometimes our intelligence levels aren't helped and the typical British charm of explaining things too specifically can be seen in some of these strange claims that are very humorous. insurance2go has claimed one customer said: “Last Saturday I was at a party, went to the portaloo with my phone light on and accidentally dropped my phone down the toilet,” “A wasp flew on me at a theme park, and I dropped my phone face down and now the top of the screen is cracked” and “my phone fell off my leg when a spider crawled on to me,” said another. “I was at work and my phone dropped down a slurry pit,” another customer stated. “This would not need reporting to the police as it was not lost anywhere except at the bottom of a huge slurry pit on a farm, no one is going after that phone trust me.”
Thanks for reading and remember to keep your eye on your phone at all times if you ever find yourself in this situation!
