Charge your phone to full in 5 minutes thanks to Xiaomi!
Xiaomi's new lightning-fast charging technology is here to rescue you from your forgetfulness of charging your phone constantly. Xiaomi appears to be leading the way as the first smartphone maker to introduce charging speeds of 300W, as it hinted at its upcoming fast charging technology in the following video.
Exhibiting extraordinary charging speeds on a 4100 mAh battery pack, the video displays the Redmi Note 12 Pro+ reaching 50% battery capacity in a mere 2 minutes, while a complete charge is accomplished in only 5 minutes.
The demo featured a modified Redmi Note 12 Pro+ smartphone, which had a 4100 mAh battery instead of the standard 4300 mAh one. The new charging system uses a customized 6:2 charge pump chip which has a conversion efficiency that is as high as 98%. Comparing to the previous 4:2 charge pump chip, the new system reduces the heat emission both in its input path and on the charging module.
Initially, we had concerns about the safety implications of charging at such high wattages, but Xiaomi's translated post reassured us that over 50 safety protections were being employed on the device. Fast charging technology has become increasingly popular on modern Android flagships, with 120W charging now commonplace. However, the Oppo's 240W SuperVOOC charging has been the fastest known option until now. This technology is set to debut globally on the Realme GT 3 smartphone on February 28, 2023.
While the Realme GT 3 is a phone that will soon be available for purchase, Xiaomi's demo is simply a preview at this stage. The standard Redmi Note 12 Pro+ models come with a 120W wired charging rate, while the Discovery Edition boasts a 210W rate. Xiaomi has not disclosed when we might see 300W charging speeds on a mass-produced smartphone, nor have they mentioned the number of charging cycles that can be expected at such speeds. Given the rapid advancements in battery technology, it wouldn't be surprising if this technology becomes available later this year. However, only time will tell if that prediction comes true!
